  4. Thank you for testing Wintune 95. This file lists the
  5. common problems you may have. Please read it before
  6. posting questions. Thanks.

  8. Wintune95 is meant only for the release version
  9. (build 950) of Windows 95 and for Windows NT 3.51.
  10. Windows 3.1 is not supported.
  11.  
  12. ============
  13. INSTALLATION
  14. ============
  15. There isn't an installation utility yet, but it's
  16. pretty simple to do manually. Unzip the files to
  17. their own directory, then run WINTUN95.EXE. You can
  18. drag the EXE file to your Start button or desktop
  19. to create a shortcut and make it easy to launch.
  20.  
  21. Missing DLLs
  22. ------------
  23. One earlier beta tester reported that they could
  24. not start Wintune; they got a message that some
  25. MFCXXX.DLL files were missing. These usually come
  26. with Windows 95 but apparently they aren't always
  27. installed. If you have this problem, please post a
  28. message saying what file it says you need and how
  29. you installed Windows 95 (Typical, Portable, Custom,
  30. Minimum, or whatever). We'll make the necessary
  31. files available as a separate download.

  34. PLEASE DO THIS *FIRST*
  35. ======================
  36. 1) Run WINTUN95.EXE
  37. 2) Click the "Analyze This System Now" button.
  38. 3) Select File/ExportAll from the menu.
  39. 4) Use a file name of <YourEmailID>.WTX; truncate
  40.    it to 8 characters and convert "," to "-".
  41. 5) Upload to the Windows Magazine forum on AOL or
  42.    CIS, Wintune95 section.
  43. 6) *Now* you can experiment!

  46. KNOWN BUGS/PROBLEMS
  47. ===================
  48. We're aware of (and going to fix) these items, so
  49. you don't need to post problem reports about them.
  50.  
  51. Tips
  52. ----
  53. These aren't implemented yet, and the ones that do
  54. come up aren't necessarily right for your system.
  55. We can't finish the tips until we get a good cross-
  56. section of results from YOU. Once we know what's
  57. normal and what's not, we can give tips for the
  58. unusual cases. So if you want tips, send in your
  59. WTX file!

  62. --------------
  63. * Can't add a description for the system.
  64. * Can't save multiple runs from same PC in database;
  65.   save results to WTX as a workaround.
  66. * Tips are not saved in the WTX file.
  67. * There is no help file. (As if you'd read it :-)

  71. * Can't get tip text that you see in Details.

  100. Wintune 95 has the ability to run applications
  101. and time how long they take to run. It can also
  102. save information that the application puts onto
  103. the clipboard. See the file APPSANLZ.TXT for
  104. more information.

  109. We'll be taking feedback and answering questions in
  110. both the America Online and Compuserve WinMag forums
  111. in the Wintune95 folder/section.  Please stop by.

  113. Since many people may have the same questions, we'll
  114. be discouraging direct email. It's better for all the
  115. beta testers to share their experiences. We can
  116. answer everyone with one message in the forums, which
  117. saves effort and leaves us more time to improve
  118. Wintune 95.
